Remember when TLC was hot and everyone wanted to be like them? Well, I’m M.A.D #TBT (Throw Back Thursday) is dedicated to T-Boz, Lefteye and Chilli!
Known for wearing condoms on their clothes, tape under their eyes and so many other trends, TLC is one of the few female girl groups that owned the 90s. They not only made music to bump & grind too, but their music was also motivational and inspiring, for example TLC’s ‘Unpretty’ was (and still is) very inspirational to young and older women all around the world. Women who have low self-esteem and try to ‘enhance’ their image for everyone but themselves.
TLC also taught women all around the world what a ‘scrub’ is. That’s when almost every woman began turning down man ‘riding is the passenger seat of his best friend of car.’
They taught us about love, relationships, self-esteem and sex! Now if your were just a kid, who hadn’t even hit puberty in the 90s, like I was, then you were probably like me when your first heard ‘Red Light Special.’ When I first heard that song I had no idea it was about sex. So imagine my surprised some-teen years later when I learned it was about sex. Maybe I was a naive kid, maybe I shouldn’t have been listening to that music in the first place. Either way, I liked the song then and I love it now.
I grew up groups like TLC and I still jam to them in my car, because that’s how dope they were! This is why I’M M.A.D is taking the time pay tribute to them, especially with songs like ‘Unpretty’ and ‘Waterfalls’ they taught young kids, teens and adults is okay to be who you are. You don’t have to change who you are for anyone.
